Vauxhall Astra For Sale
There's a lot to like about the Vauxhall Astra. For one thing it looks great, especially if you go for the three-door Sport Hatch version. It's also fun to drive, with an able, agile chassis and a good choice of willing engines, while the VXR hot hatch is a guaranteed hell-raiser.

Vauxhall Astra Review
For:Good to drive, comfortable ride, sharp styling, cheap to buy
Against:Not the roomiest small hatchback, awkwardly shaped boot opening
Autoquake.com verdict: star
Why buy one?
Vauxhall might not be the first name which springs to mind when you think of stylish cars, but just take a look at the Astra. The three-door in particular (which Vauxhall calls Sport Hatch) has the power to stop traffic.
A used Vauxhall Astra doesn't just sell on its looks, though. The Astra is good to drive, with strong road-holding, a comfortable ride and a wide choice of modern and efficient engines.
The cabin is well built, and stands up well as the years and miles roll by. In spite of the quality finish, the Astra loses value quickly from new, which makes it a bargain used buy.
Why think twice?
Some rivals, such as the Skoda Octavia, have more space inside, especially in the rear seats. The boot opening is an awkward shape, which makes loading bulky items more difficult than it should be.
How safe?
The Astra picked up a five-star rating from crash test experts, Euro NCAP.
What might go wrong?
The Astra finished 70th out of 101 cars in the 2009 JD Power Customer Satisfaction Survey, so it's not immune from the odd problem. If trouble does occur second-hand Vauxhall Astras are normally relatively cheap to put right.
What do the experts say?
'Not quite a Golf-beater but almost there.' 4 Car
