Peugeot 407 For Sale - Used Peugeot 407
We'd struggle to name many better looking family cars than a used Peugeot 407. There's substance beneath the style, too, in the form of economical and refined diesel engines. On the other hand, the ride is rather firm at low speeds and many rivals have more space in the back.

Review
For:Strong diesels, distinctive looks, lots of safety equipment
Against:Not very roomy in the back, clunky ride, no hatchback
Autoquake.com verdict: star
Why buy one?
A used Peugeot 407 is a distinctive alternative to the likes of the Ford Mondeo or Vauxhall Vectra. It looks good inside and out, with a classy cabin and good build quality.
The diesel engines are excellent, with good refinement and the promise of low fuel bills. Whichever engine is under the bonnet, plenty of safety kit is fitted.
Why think twice?
Compared with the biggest family cars, there's not much space in the back. The ride is rather firm, especially around town, and the lack of a hatchback body-style will put some possible buyers off. You'll have more fun behind the wheel of a Mondeo than a second-hand 407.
How safe?
This is one of the 407's strong points. Plenty of safety features are fitted, even to lower spec versions. The car scored five stars out of five when it was tested by Euro NCAP in 2004.
What might go wrong?
A used 407 shouldn't cause major headaches, but it's not perfect, either. The car finished 67th out of 101 cars in the 2009 JD Power Customer Satisfaction Survey. Owners weren't especially impressed how dealers went about correcting faults, either.
