Peugeot 307 For Sale - Used Peugeot 307

The Peugeot 307 is a handsome car, but it falls short of the best small hatches Peugeot 307 For Sale - Used Peugeot 307

A used Peugeot 307 is one of the best looking small hatchbacks. The diesels are the pick of the range, with strong performance, good refinement and impressive economy. However, reliability problems are all too common. The 307 lags behind the best small hatches in other ways, too - it's bland to drive and there's not enough legroom in the back.

Review

For:Good looking, excellent diesel engines

Against:Rear legroom could be better, bland to drive, some reliability issues

Autoquake.com verdict: star

Why buy one?

A used Peugeot 307 is a handsome car, no doubt about it. The engines are strong, too, especially if you choose one of the economical and refined diesel engines. Looks aside, they're probably the most appealing aspect of the car. There's also plenty of equipment on most versions and respectable safety standards.

Why think twice?

Unless you're smitten by the styling, you can buy better. Rear-seat space is tighter than in a VW Golf, the driving position is awkward, and there are too many reliability problems. It's not much fun to drive, with imprecise steering and lacklustre handling. Ride comfort is nothing special, either.

How safe?

You don't have to worry about a second-hand 307 on that score. When tested by crash test experts Euro NCAP in 2001, it scored four stars out of five. The 307 CC (the convertible version) matched the hatchback's score a couple of years later.

What might go wrong?

Unfortunately, quite a bit. Too many owners report mechanical problems, and some have annoying faults with the stereo. At least Peugeot dealers don't tend to charge too much to put thing right.

What do the experts say?

'The cabin is neither as comfortable nor as well proportioned as the Golf's.' 4Car
