A used Ford Fusion is closely based on the Fiesta. It's just that bit bigger. So if you want a small car with surprising interior space, this is it.

The Ford Fusion has a higher driving position than most superminis, which makes getting in and out easy and gives good visibility. It's pleasant to drive, with responsive handling and willing engines.

Why think twice?

The engines may perform well enough, but they're also noisy, especially if you go for the diesel. There's lots of wind and road noise at speed.

The ride is rather firm, and not everyone will take to the dumpy looks.

How safe?

Euro NCAP crash testers awarded the Fusion four out of five in 2003. However, not all cars come with stability control, so check the spec carefully if this is important to you.
