FAQs
Part Exchange
Do you do part exchange?
Autoquake.com offers high quality cars at low prices by removing a number of costs associated with running typical car dealerships/supermarkets, such as salesmen, and therefore we are unable to take part exchanges. In order to maximize the value you receive from your existing car we recommend you to sell it privately online using Auto Trader or eBay. For more advice on how to sell your car, please follow one of the links below:
About Autoquake.com:
How can your prices be so low?
We are an online business, which means we don't have to pay for showrooms and sales persons. Typical dealers need a 20% or more markup to break even, but we need much less and the savings are passed on to our customers. You get the same car cheaper simply because our operating costs are much lower.
What guarantee do I have, buying a car online?
All our cars are HPI checked and have a 141 point mechanical inspection. We show more high quality photos of our cars than any other dealer and you can spend as much time as you want inspecting the car -no pushy salesman trying to sell you a car you don't want.
All our online payments are transacted through the Barclays e-commerce platform. Our website uses a secured protocol (SSL) when processing personal information and is fully certified by Verisign. We offer an extra level of security if you are registered for Verified by Visa or MasterCard Secure Code.
Our company is young but solidly backed by leading venture capital companies and is a proud member of BVRLA (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association). Autoquake.com is already one of the most visited car dealer websites in Europe.
Finally, if you are not totally happy with your car, you benefit from a 7 day money back guarantee - no questions asked.
How long have you been around?
Autoquake.com has been founded in 2005. We sell several hundred cars a month and have had hundreds of happy customers on whom we rely to keep growing. Please see for yourself with our customer testimonials and eBay feedback.
Where do you come from?
Some of us come from the car industry; some have an e-commerce background. Please visit the management team and our board members pages if you want to know more about who is behind Autoquake.com.
Buying a car:
My budget is limited, will you accept a lower price?
We have a no-haggling policy to offer the same low prices to everyone and believe all our customers should enjoy the same great prices, whether they are good at haggling or not. Bear in mind we have a very high stock turnover so if your car is slightly above your budget, create an alert and whenever a similar car arrives; you will be the first to know.
Can I see the car before buying it?
Yes. Please note that this is by appointment only. Appointments can only be made once you have reserved your car. Please arrange a viewing by calling us on 0844 800 9406 (refer to the contact page for our call centre opening times).
Keep in mind that the deposit is fully refundable, so if you have found a car you like, reserve it online to make sure you can make an appointment.
Please note that once a viewing appointment has been arranged, you will lose your deposit if you fail to give us at least 24 hours notice of cancellation.
Why do I forfeit my deposit if I miss my appointment?
Our appointment only policy is primarily to ensure a personal and high level of customer service.
If a customer fails to give us 24 hours notice of cancellation then we do not
have enough time to reassign that time slot to another customer. In addition,
the car will not have been available for sale during the time it has been reserved.
The deposit forfeit aims to ensure customers inform us of changes to their plans
in adequate time for us to reassign viewing times for customers and relist
cars on the website.
What happens if I change my mind?
All our cars have a 7-day money back guarantee - No questions asked. If you are not satisfied with your car, you can return it up to 7 days after pick up or delivery and claim a full refund. Find more details on the money back guarantee page.
Do you charge for credit card transactions?
Yes. If you wish to pay for your car by credit card, a 2.9% fee applies to cover bank processing costs. Payments by debit card do not incur this fee.
Why do you charge a £99 fee?
This fee covers our administrative costs when selling a car. It is charged separately because most of our cars are sold on behalf of fleet companies. This fee represents around 0.6% of the average used car but even taking this into account, our prices are on average 10% cheaper than car supermarkets.
What are my payment options?
You can fund your car using the following methods:
- Apply for Finance online or over the phone
- Complete your online finance application in 5 minutes and we will give you a decision within 48 hours. Select the term and deposit to generate the right custom quote for you and then Apply.
- Other payment options
- You can make your payment to Autoquake.com using the following payment methods. We charge fees for certain payment methods according to the associated costs. There are 2 free payment methods - Debit card and Bank transfers (BACS , CHAPS and Faster payments). Please see below for rates.
| Payment Method | Charge | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Debit card | Free | The banks charge us a small fee for debit card transactions which we are happy to absorb. This payment method is not available if you have chosen to have your car delivered. |
| Bank transfer (BACS , CHAPS and Faster payments) | Free | The banks charge us a small fee for bank transfers which we are happy to absorb. Please note that your bank may charge you a fee. For BACS payments, please allow 3 days for processing before you pick up your car. |
| Cheques / Banker's Draft | 2.9% | Whilst processing charges from the banks are relatively small, we incur significant cheque insurance costs (so that we do not have to wait for the cheque to clear) and must pass this on to keep our car prices low. This payment method is not available if you have chosen to have your car delivered. |
| Credit card | 2.9% | We incur costs from the credit card companies and must pass this on to keep our car prices low. This payment method is not available if you have chosen to have your car delivered. |
Do you accept cash payments?
Unfortunately we do not accept cash payments. The handling of cash transactions incurs security, safekeeping, pick-up and processing costs which we would need to pass on to keep our car prices low. As we no longer accept cash payments, we can continue to offer you even better value on our vehicles whilst maintaining flexibility and ease of purchase with our remaining payment methods.
What are Last chance cars?
Autoquake.com operates a strict stocking policy. Last chance cars are cars that are approaching their time limit on the site and as a result are now priced at below market value to sell quickly. They represent fantastic value, so don't expect to see them on the website for long!
About Our cars:
Is car XYZ still available?
Yes! If it is listed on Autoquake.com, it is available. On very rare occasions, in spite of every effort we make to provide you with up to date information, it can unfortunately happen that a car gets reserved almost simultaneously by two different customers. If that is the case, we obviously refund the deposit to the last person who made the deposit.
Have your cars been checked?
Every car listed on Autoquake.com is HPI checked and has successfully passed a 141 point mechanical inspection
I checked the car and it has finance on it, why?
Some cars on the website are sold on behalf of fleets ( more information about this) and technically belong to them till the moment we sell the car. It's normal that they have finance on them when advertised, but from the moment you buy one, the finance on the car is cleared.
Does it have a Full Service History?
Most of our cars have a Full Service History, some have a partial one and a few have no history. Whichever the case, it is always mentioned, including scans of the service records (where applicable), in each car listing.
When was this car last serviced?
For each car we list, the date of last service, as well as the scan of all relevant papers, is indicated in the listing page (where applicable).
Does it have an MOT?
Yes. For each car we list, the scan of the MOT is published on the details page. Cars have at least 3 months MOT. If they have less than 3 months at purchase date, we will give it a full 12 months prior to delivery.
What is the road tax due for this car?
The Road Tax in the UK depends on the CO2 emissions, which is indicated for all our cars in the "specifications" tab. Using this number, you can find out the corresponding tax rate on the DirectGov website.
Are the tyres legal?
Yes, this is one of the points in our 141 point inspection and we show clear images of the tyre treads on all listings.
Do you offer an extended warranty?
We do offer an optional extended warranty package with an inclusive roadside assistance. Check our used car warranty page to find more details this.
What if the car is not exactly as described?
We take every care in making our online listings as accurate as possible. We want to make sure the car in the metal looks exactly the same as on the website. We process hundreds of cars every month, though, and can't promise 100% accuracy all the time. We might once in a while miss a little scratch, have a sub-par photo, etc. If this happens in spite of our best efforts, we will either restore the car to the state it was on the photographs or adjust the price accordingly.
What is the MPG, CO2 emissions for this car?
We understand that these are increasingly important figures and have recently included them in the Specification tab of each car listing.
What is fair wear and tear on a car?
We try to be as transparent as possible in providing you with all the information you need to buy one of our cars. If we find a damaged area on the car when we inspect it, we either repair it or list it as a damage point for you to see in the condition viewer. However, we consider some minor imperfections that are commensurate with a car's age and mileage to be acceptable. For a full understanding of what we consider fair wear and tear please click here.
About 'available to pre-order cars'?
What is a 'pre-order' car?
Autoquake.com has strong relationships with our fleet partners. We have access to a lot of additional cars that we can make available to you on an on demand basis. We don't incur any stocking charges for these cars and so can even offer them at a lower price than the cars that we stock.
You can pre-order a car that exactly matches the specification of the perfect car you are looking for. We give you the estimated arrival date and the outline specification of the car.

Cars can only be viewed at the handover centres once they are reserved and an appointment is made.
Can I pick up the car and drive away on the same day?
For most cars, yes. Note that some of our ex-fleet cars have specific tax requirements and must have the initial road tax carried out at the local Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency. For some cars, the summary states that the initial road tax needs to becarried out at the local Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). What does this mean?
Most of our cars can be taxed either at the Post Office or at the DVLA. A very few of them, though, as part of a specific fleet, can only be taxed at the DVLA the first time around. Please keep this in mind when you come to collect your car and plan your trip accordingly.

You advertise a car on eBay but I cannot find it on the website. Is it available?
No. Our stock is automatically updated on our website: what you see is what is available. On eBay, though, it can occasionally take a few hours for the stock to be fully synchronized and discrepancies can happen. As a rule, if a car is not available on Autoquake.com, it means it has already been reserved or bought by someone else.

It is not necessary; it will disappear from eBay in just a few hours when we synchronised eBay with our stock.
